Incredible Keto Whiskey Sour

Another classic American cocktail and one I only discovered recently after watching Once Upon A Time in Hollywood. Dicaprio’s character is utterly obsessed with the Whiskey Sour and it really made me want to make “just three or four… I had to have 8!” But, as with many sweet cocktails, the Whiskey Sour is not typically a keto friendly drink. But no way was I gonna miss out, so here is my keto whiskey sour recipe fit for a movie star!
Ingredients
- 1.5 ounce bourbon
- ¾ ounce lemon juice
- ½ ounce of keto simple syrup
- 2 dashes Angostura bitters
- 1/2 fresh egg white
- Ice
- Lemon peel to garnish
How to make the keto whiskey sour
Before we start preparing the cocktail, I recommend you get your glass nice and chilled, either by leaving it in the freezer or just filling it with some ice cubes or iced water. The glass you use is up to you but I like to get with an old fashioned glass.
I like to start the cocktail with the egg white. This is the part you’re most likely to mess up so it’s better to start with it so if it goes wrong, you only lose out on the egg and not the whole drink.
You only need half of the egg white for one serving of your keto whiskey sour but you may just want to use all of it and make two cocktails at once.
Now, add your egg white, bourbon, keto simple syrup and lemon juice to a cocktail shaker. With these ingredients you want to do a dry shake (shaking without ice) and this will help the proteins to break down and make the drink nice and foamy.
Once you’ve shaken for a few seconds, you can add your ice and again, shake for about 10 seconds.
Now that your cocktail is fully shaken, strain the liquid into your thoroughly chilled cocktail glass and allow the foam to settle.
Finally, you can garnish with the angostura bitters and maybe a little lemon peel but it’s up to you.
And there you have it, a deliciously silky, keto whiskey sour. A perfect after dinner treat and one of my personal favorites!
Do you have to use egg whites?
The egg white is what gives the cocktail that wonderful velvety texture which perfectly complements the sourness of the drink. But some people can be a little squeamish about raw egg so you can either skip it completely, or if you are ok with a little more carbs, you can use aquafaba instead!
